The clearing among the trees has grown in size and will be ready for stump removal and excavation. At just under half an acre it’s enough space for the house and room to work and maneuver materials while the house is being built. The lower part of this clearing has definite signs of an old building site, a fallen in basement and field stone foundation, likely a homestead built at the turn of the century when most of the lower section of the mountain was open and being farmed.
The trees cut from the site have provided several hundred posts and rails along with numerous Saw-logs which will be milled later this year for building materials. There is also enough hardwood to provide heating fuel for at least 2 years.
Soon the heavy labor of site preparation will be done and the finesse of building our home begins.
